The Blue Plaques - the Wigan Edition

Horace Lindezey, UK

For Light Night Wigan, Horace Lindezey was commissioned to create seven new blue plaques celebrating people who had a connection to Wigan. Horace researched the area and chose seven people who had passed away, each with their own story and connection to the town.

Horace and Venture Arts worked with Lazerian Studio to bring the plaques to life as illuminated artworks. The plaques are interchangeable, allowing the project to continue beyond Wigan. The next chapter will take place in Oldham, where Horace will research and celebrate the lives of seven people connected to the town.

Horace Lindezey works from Venture Arts studio in Hulme. He is known for his distinctive blue plaques, which celebrate the lives of people who have been important to him, whether that be family, friends or people in the public eye.

To date, Horace has made more than 100 blue plaques, drawing on his own memories and experiences. His personal memories are inscribed onto the plaques, creating a unique record of the people and stories that have stayed with him. Horace first exhibited his blue plaques in 2020, and his work has since gone on to be collected and exhibited around the world. Each plaque invites us to discover the people who matter to Horace and the stories he wants to share with us.

Venture Arts is a supported studio in Hulme, Manchester working with learning disabled artists.
