WHAT’S MINE IS YOURS
Tom Biddulph
UK / The Netherlands
A site-specific work paying tribute to the industrial history that lies beneath our feet. Mesnes Park was once a working colliery, supplying the coal that powered the Industrial Revolution and kept the country running. After the closure of the mines, Mesnes Park was given to the people of Wigan as a space for recreation and community.
Working in the mines was dangerous, dirty and relentless, but the miners were immensely proud of what they did. Bound together by the back-breaking work, the mining communities became a tight-knit extended family that cared intensely for each other. No one was on their own.
Today we find ourselves facing an increasingly divided world. This artwork is a reminder that there is enough for everyone, and a plea to help others no matter where they come from or what they look like.
Tom was born in Manchester, England, and now lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A consecutive string of installations for the Amsterdam Light Festival led to establishing his artistic practice, initially focussing on light works but now expanding to include photography, textiles and video works. Tom has always has been fascinated by language and how it shows up in the physical world. His installations often make use of familiar everyday items, using them as a vehicle to convey a deeper message. Recent projects include a fourth commission for the Amsterdam Light Festival, an exhibition at A Flag Gallery in Amsterdam.
Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
