Translucens
Niko Tiainen, Finland
Finnish artist Niko Tiainen has created a beautiful abstract water screen piece that will be shown on the pond in Mesnes Park for Light Night Wigan.
”Translucens” is Latin and means translucent, something that is perceptible but also nonexistent. The artwork employs non-linear storytelling, blending the Kuleshov effect, where different images and video clips merge into one another, and the actual story is created in the viewer’s mind. The narrative could be compared to the ”impromptu” composition technique, where short improvised musical motifs are eventually mixed into a refined composition.
The geometric forms in the projection evoke a tesseract, linking the viewer to the abstract realm of mathematics. Rather than appearing as a static pattern, the multidimensional structure unfolds as a continuously shifting form of energy: a cycle of light, water, and movement.
